Larviciding
General: Ground larviciding is a site specific application of an insecticide to a wetland to control mosquitoes in there aquatic stages before they emerge as adult mosquitoes.
Data Base: The District has an extensive data base of larviciding or mosquito breeding sites throughout our service area and a breeding history for each of these sites. From this data base, sites are inspected and treated in accordance with BMP for each municipality
Site Inspection: Field technicians collect a minimum of 10 larval dip samples
and record the result in a daily report. At the discretion of the field
technician, the site will be treated as necessary.
Application: When an application is necessary, Bacillus Thuringiensis var. israelensis (Bti) is applied by hand or power equipment. Bti is a naturally occurring biological larvicide, specifically formulated to target mosquito larvae, and is nontoxic to people, birds, fish, bees, and nearly all other insect species.
