Aedes albopictus

 

Aedes albopictus was first collected in the United States in Texas in 1985, and has since spread across the southeastern United States. The first recorded collection in Massachusetts was in 2000. A. albopictus is an opportunistic container breeder, adapting to a wide range of habitats including both natural and artificial containers. The species is multivoltine and can survive and complete its life cycle in water as shallow as 1/4".
